How to Lose Weight on a GM Diet

The GM diet, also known as the General Motors Diet, is a diet that claims to help you shed as much as fifteen pounds (6.8 Kg) within a week. Each day of this diet allows you to consume special food groups or foods. Most of these special foods are very limited and have very few calories.


The diet consists mainly of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and dairy products. In order for you to follow all these, you will need to buy prepackaged food from the grocery store. This diet does not allow you to use oils, margarine or butter. This diet requires you to use olive oil instead. It is highly advised to read the labels carefully so as to avoid potentially dangerous ingredients like artificial flavoring and other chemicals. Some foods on this diet such as eggs, chicken and tuna may be high in cholesterol; hence, it is best to consult your physician if you have high cholesterol or if you want to reduce the risk of heart attack.

The GM diet recommends you to consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. It also gives you lemons, limes, oranges, watermelon, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, and celery. It is important that you replace these foods with raw fruits and vegetable as much as possible. The GM diet recommends you to drink at least 2 liters of water every day. You can simply do this by drinking the recommended liquids out of a specially designed water bottle.

When it comes to implementing the diet, it is vital to remember that the first seven days are crucial for you to lose the most weight. This is because the first day of this diet, you will receive a high-protein diet plan. As you continue with the diet plan, your body will adjust to the sudden increase in protein and thus will convert some of the proteins into fats. On the first day, you will have a very low calorie intake. Therefore, you can expect your metabolism to speed up and burn more calories and fats.

If you do not stick to the diet for the whole period of time, then you will not only fail to lose weight, but you might suffer side effects such as dehydration, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Moreover, you might also develop gastrointestinal tract infection, kidney stones, or other kidney problems. The digestive system is the organ that can be easily broken down when you have a high-protein diet. The digestive system is especially affected when you have just finished eating the GM meal. As a result, you will have difficulty in digesting the proteins, causing your body to lose more weight in the process.

As mentioned earlier, the major feature of this diet plan is to have a one bowl of food a day, instead of the usual three meals. This means that your meal every day will consist of either one bowl of cooked vegetables or one bowl of raw vegetables. You can choose to mix vegetables or fruits according to your preference. It is recommended to have a salad for dinner, and then eat brown rice, boiled egg, and a small piece of cheese for breakfast.
